A 27-year-old Gwanda man has been jailed for 20 years for raping his employer’s four-year-old niece while she was in his care at her grandmother’s home in Nyadeni.
The domestic worker from Nyadeni Village was convicted of rape and sentenced by the Bulawayo Regional Magistrates’ Court.
The State told the court that the accused had been left at home to look after the child while her grandmother was away.
The court heard that while the child was asleep on a couch, the accused allegedly carried her into his room and raped her.

The matter came to light after the child later told her grandmother what had happened.
The grandmother reported the matter to the police, leading to the accused’s arrest.
A medical affidavit confirming sexual abuse and the child’s birth certificate were produced in court as exhibits.
The man was sentenced to 20 years in prison and will serve his sentence at a prison in Bulawayo.
