A 34-year-old security guard has appeared in court for allegedly conniving with robbers to steal US$88,846 after he opened the main gate for them while on duty.
Charles Mukwenha, 34, appeared before the Harare Magistrates' Court facing robbery charges.
The court heard that on September 25, Mukwenha was on duty manning the main gate, with his duties including screening all visitors before granting them access.
Prosecutors alleged that Mukwenha acted in connivance with his accomplices, who arrived wearing blue work suits and surgical face masks, with one of them carrying a pick.
He allegedly opened the gate for them.
His accomplices then went straight into the house, leaving Mukwenha alone at the main gate.

Inside, they allegedly confronted the complainant and demanded cash, asking where the company's delivered cash was kept.
One of them then picked up a plastic bag containing US$88,846 that was lying on the floor.
They allegedly ordered the complainant to remain seated as two of the accused walked out of the office, while one remained behind to guard her.
They then went to an upstairs office, where they allegedly dismantled a dummy CCTV DVR before walking out of the house and fleeing.
On September 25, 2026, detectives attended the scene and viewed CCTV footage which allegedly showed Mukwenha giving his accomplices easy access to the premises and thereafter failing to alert the occupants.
Instead, he allegedly walked freely towards other victims from the gate, where he had been left unguarded.
