
European Union Ambassador to Zimbabwe Katrin Hagemann has died in Harare, diplomatic sources have said.
Hagemann, who took up her post in late 2025, reportedly became ill at her home in Harare on Thursday morning and was later found unresponsive by staff.
The circumstances surrounding her death have not yet been officially disclosed.

The EU’s official records confirm that Hagemann presented her credentials to President Emmerson Mnangagwa on December 11, 2025, formally beginning her diplomatic mission in Zimbabwe.
She had been in the country for less than a year but had already become a prominent figure in Zimbabwe’s diplomatic and economic engagement with the European Union.
At her first media engagement in February, Hagemann outlined the EU’s priorities, including trade and investment, governance, debt restructuring and strengthening relations with Zimbabwe.
She also spoke publicly about Zimbabwe’s civic and political environment, expressing concern over restrictions affecting civil society and opposition political activity.
