Journalist Dies in Geo Pomona Truck Crash

Journalist Judith Nyuke, 39, died in a road traffic accident involving a Geo Pomona Waste Management vehicle along Harare Drive near Art Farm in Pomona, Harare, on Saturday afternoon.

The accident occurred at around 3.30pm on September 19, with Nyuke dying in the incident.

Geo Pomona Waste Management confirmed that one of its vehicles was involved in the fatal accident and said the company was cooperating with authorities investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the company expressed its condolences to the deceased journalist’s family, friends, colleagues and the wider media community.

“Geo Pomona Waste Management confirms with profound sadness that one of its vehicles was involved in a fatal road traffic accident that resulted in the loss of life of a member of the public,” the company said.

The company said it had initiated an internal review and was working with the relevant authorities as investigations continue.

The company said it would not release further details while the police investigation was underway, citing the need to respect the deceased’s family and avoid interfering with the investigative process.

Geo Pomona also said it would engage the family and provide appropriate support.

The company did not identify Nyuke in its statement, saying it was withholding the journalist’s name out of respect for the deceased and her family while the official investigation remained ongoing.

Nyuke’s death has left colleagues in the media fraternity mourning the loss of the journalist.

Police are investigating the accident.
