Zimbabwe’s Senior Panthers have qualified for the 2027 Korfball World Cup after a strong campaign at the Africa Korfball Championship in Malawi, which also served as a World Cup qualifier.
The qualification places Zimbabwe among the 24 nations set to compete at the global tournament, which will be held in the Netherlands from October 15 to 24, 2027.
The Panthers’ qualification continues Zimbabwe’s strong record in African korfball, with the country having won the continental championship in 2022.
Head coach Ruben Taruwinga praised the team’s fighting spirit, saying the players remained committed despite dealing with injuries during the tournament.

“I’m proud of my team. They fought very well despite having a few injuries during play. Now that we have qualified for the World Cup, we wish to have regular training camps so that we can build a strong team for the world competition,” said Taruwinga.
Zimbabwe Korfball Federation Secretary-General Angeline Kashangura said the federation was grateful to the teams and partners who supported the campaign and called for more corporate involvement ahead of the World Cup.
“We are very grateful for qualifying for the World Cup. We would like to thank our corporate partners for making this journey possible. For the World Cup, we invite more corporates to come on board and help make this World Cup dream a reality,” said Kashangura.
The Panthers will now begin preparations for the global tournament, with the technical team looking to use regular training camps to build the squad ahead of Zimbabwe’s return to the world stage.
