In a thrilling display of musical prowess, Afro-fusion outfit Simuniziva has emerged as the champions of the Matabeleland North leg of the prestigious Chibuku Road to Fame 2025 talent search.
The group’s electrifying performance, which seamlessly blended traditional rhythms with contemporary sounds, left both the judges and the enthusiastic crowd in awe.
The Matabeleland North showcase was part of the 25th anniversary edition of Chibuku Road to Fame, Zimbabwe’s largest and longest-running grassroots music competition.
The event has been a launching pad for countless artists who have gone on to shape the country’s music scene.
Simuniziva’s victory earned them a top prize of US$2,500 and a coveted spot in the national finals, set to take place later this year.
Abelifa the Inheritors, a polished traditional jazz ensemble, secured second place with their captivating stage presence and musical maturity.
They walked away with a prize of US$1,500. Zambezi Fusion, celebrated for their acoustic-driven fusion style, claimed third place and a prize of US$1,000.
Chibuku Road to Fame has been instrumental in nurturing grassroots talent in Zimbabwe since its inception in 2001.
The competition is spearheaded by Delta Beverages in partnership with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe. Over the years, the platform has played a significant role in shaping the country’s music industry.
As Simuniziva joins previous regional winners from Mashonaland West and Midlands, anticipation is building for a fiercely competitive national contest.
