Muchato Wenyika gathers momentum as Chadiwa wedding takes shape

Preparations for Simbarashe Chadiwa’s community-supported wedding have shifted from an ambitious idea to a confirmed event, with organisers securing Harare Gardens for September 26.

The ceremony, themed “Muchato Wenyika,” will run from 9am to 3pm and is being built around contributions from businesses, creatives and well-wishers who have offered services ranging from catering and décor to transport, entertainment and wedding attire.

Wedding planner Kundai Murengwa of Tilder Foundation said preparations were progressing well. “The venue has been confirmed. We have secured Harare Gardens for 26 September, from 9am to 3pm, and we also have several confirmed service providers,” she said.

Chadiwa, who spent nine years in prison on a rape conviction that remains legally unresolved despite the complainant later recanting her allegation, is rebuilding his life with wife Christabel Kudziwe and their young son.

The wedding is the latest chapter in that rebuilding journey. Among confirmed service providers, Dequain Catering is supporting the event, Ana Vic Events will provide chairs, while Millennium Gear will supply mobile toilets.

AVM is providing flowers, D’s Beauty Bar will style the bride’s hair and The Wedding Centre is dressing the bridal team. Wedding rings and outfits for both bride and groom have also been secured.

Entertainment will include Divine Touch, an ensemble of prison inmates, High Voltage Poets and a traditional dance group. The bridal party has also begun rehearsals under choreographer T-Bone.

Food remains one of the main outstanding areas. Eden Gardens has donated 100 chickens, while Carlos Meats is providing beef and pork for the bridal party and bachelor’s party.

“We are still looking for food supplies,” Murengwa said. “At the moment, we have secured the meat, but the remaining food supplies, including beverages, have not yet been obtained.” Pre-wedding celebrations are also taking shape.

The bachelor’s party and bridal shower will be held a week before the wedding at separate venues. The men will gather at Musha Gardens and Resort in Ruwa, while the bridal shower will be held at The Wedding Centre along Robson Manyika Avenue in central Harare.

Min Travel has also provided transport for the couple and their parents. For organisers, the growing list of contributors is what gives Muchato Wenyika its character. Rather than being financed by one wealthy benefactor, the wedding is being assembled piece by piece by people and businesses contributing what they can.

What began as an idea to give Chadiwa and his family a memorable celebration is now taking visible shape. With the venue booked, outfits ready and rehearsals underway, the countdown to September 26 has begun.
