An armed robber who was part of the gang that robbed Legency Wholesale has appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Courts.
Chenjerai Mutsikwi, 33, of Whitecliff appeared before magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa charged with robbery.
The State, through prosecutor Pardon Dziva, alleges that on July 2, 2023 at 0300 hours, Mutsikwi who was with four others - Mugove Chimuti and Ishmael Mutungira who are now deceased, Leonard Magumura and another who is still at large,armed himself with an AK47 rifle.
His co-accused Magumura was also armed with an AK47 rifle while the other co-accused were armed with small firearms.
They went to the complainant's shop, Legency Wholesale located at number 4407 Kushanda Crescent, Budiriro 2, Harare where they confronted the security guard.
They threatened him with their weaponry, manhandled and tied his hands and legs from behind with shoelaces and ordered him to sit on the ground.
One of the accused remained on guard and the rest went to the shop where they used dynamites to blast the main door and gained entry into shop. While inside, they used dynamites to blast the safe open and stole US$985 and disappeared.
Gofa opposed Mutsikwi’s bail highlighting that he was facing a third schedule offence.
He will appear in court on August 30, and will apply for bail at the High Court.
