Bus Search Uncovers 12 Somalis Without Zim Entry Documents

Twelve Somali nationals were intercepted by detectives aboard a Bulawayo-bound bus at Cinderella railway crossing along the Bulawayo–Victoria Falls highway for allegedly entering Zimbabwe without valid travel documents while en route to South Africa.

The 12, aged between 14 and 42, appeared before the Hwange Magistrates’ Court facing charges of contravening the Immigration Act by entering and remaining in Zimbabwe without valid permits.

They were not asked to plead.

The prosecutor told the court that at around 10pm on October 3, 2026, Criminal Investigation Department detectives in Hwange acted on a tip-off and intercepted an Extra City bus at Cinderella railway crossing.

The court heard that during a search of the bus, detectives discovered 12 male foreign nationals travelling from Victoria Falls to Bulawayo, with South Africa as their final destination.

Investigations established that the group had no valid travel documents, permits or visitor entry certificates authorising their entry into or stay in Zimbabwe.

The State alleged that the accused had crossed into Zimbabwe illegally before boarding the bus in Victoria Falls.

The accused appeared in court on October 5, 2026, and were remanded in custody until October 19, 2026, to allow the State to secure a Somali interpreter.
