A 26-year-old Lithuanian national has been sentenced to four months in prison for failing to produce valid residence documents while in Zimbabwe.
Tadas Milvydas was convicted at the Harare Magistrates’ Court for contravening the Immigration Act. He was given the option to pay a US$200 fine or serve the four-month jail term.
The State, led by prosecutor Faith Mavhudzi, told the court that on April 29, 2025, authorities received a tip-off about a dealer in possession of copper cables without a permit at No. 11 Harrow Complex, Bay 18, in Msasa, Harare.
Police obtained a search warrant and raided the premises. During the operation, Milvydas was found hiding in a small cabin inside the building.
Upon being searched, officers found a Lithuanian identity card in his right pocket. When questioned, he confirmed his nationality as Lithuanian but failed to produce valid travel or residence documents, leading to his arrest.
The matter was referred to the Department of Immigration, which subsequently issued a warrant for his detention.
