Norton Big Boys have mathematically secured first place in the Mashonaland West Division 2B Eastern Section, capping an outstanding campaign with three matches still in hand.
The Norton side sits on 53 points from 19 matches, having won 17 and drawn two without suffering a single defeat. Their closest rivals, Berks FC, have also collected 53 points but have already played all 22 matches.
The numbers make Norton's achievement particularly significant. Their unbeaten record has produced a remarkable 89.5 percent win rate.
Their +36 goal difference is also the best in the division, five goals better than Berks' +31. Norton have therefore combined the division's highest points tally with the strongest goal difference among the leading sides.
The three matches in hand make the achievement even more notable. If Norton were to win all three, they could finish on 62 points. Even without taking those remaining fixtures into account, their current 53 points are enough to guarantee first place ahead of the teams still having matches to play.
Third-placed Triple C Pigs FC, for example, have 46 points from 20 matches and can reach a maximum of 52 points if they win their remaining two games.
For coach Rodreck Mutuma, however, finishing first is only part of the bigger objective.

“We are cruising well, putting our focus on earning promotion ahead,” Mutuma said.
The club's attention is now firmly turning towards the promotion challenge, with the leadership hoping the strong league campaign can translate into success at the next stage.
The Big Boys are also beginning to look beyond the current squad. Club president Tatenda Wadyajena confirmed the introduction of five young players, adding youthful energy to a squad that includes several experienced footballers.
One of the youngsters, 19-year-old Evan Nyandoro, said playing alongside players he grew up hearing about has given him an opportunity to learn every day.
“I grew up hearing that there’s Oscar Machapa, Evans Gwekwerere, Rusike and many more, but here I am, playing with them in the same team,” Nyandoro said.
He described playing alongside the experienced players as being like attending school, with the younger footballers learning from them on a daily basis.
“I can say playing with them is the same as being at school, as I and my other young players will be learning a lot every day,” he said.
The club's development is also being reflected away from the field. Last weekend, Norton Big Boys travelled to an away fixture in a new team vehicle, another sign of the club's investment as it seeks to establish itself at a higher level.
