Frank Agyemang may have grabbed much of the attention in the Dynamos camp as he chases goals and competes for the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Golden Boot, but another player has quietly forced his way into the conversation.

Isaac Landu has become the man of the moment at Dynamos, turning heads with a string of commanding defensive performances that have seen him collect the LuckyBets Man of the Match award six times this season.

The six awards have earned the centre-back US$1,200 in total, while also placing him at the top of the league’s Man of the Match standings.

For a defender, Landu’s influence has been particularly striking. His composure, strength in the challenge and ability to read the game have made him a key figure in the Dynamos backline, with his performances repeatedly earning recognition.

But Landu is not yet satisfied with six awards.

“I and my fellow teammates, we fight every game to give the best. Being six times Man of the Match, it’s not over yet. I have to get to 10, God willing, and I know I’ll be able to,” Landu told ZimNow.

His consistency has also earned him a special place among the Dynamos faithful.

Among the foreign players in the Dynamos camp, Landu has become one of the most popular figures with the club’s supporters, who have described the defender as the “Tollgate”.

For Dynamos supporters, the name reflects Landu’s ability to stop opposition attackers in their tracks, with one loyalist, Farai Torarepi, describing the defender as a calm and reliable presence.

“This guy is just a tollgate, very calm in defending. I hope Dynamos would keep him,” said Torarepi.

Landu’s profile was boosted further during Dynamos’ 1-1 draw against Scottland, when he produced another commanding defensive display.

Tasked with helping contain Scottland dangerman Khama Billiat, Landu stood firm as Dynamos secured a point, earning another Man of the Match award in the process.

It was another performance that underlined why Dynamos are keen to retain his services beyond the current campaign.

Dynamos head coach Aristica Cioaba has also been impressed by Landu’s development and insists the defender remains firmly in his plans.

“I am very happy about Lando. I see he is the sixth time Man of the Match and improved game to game. Lando is very serious to every game. He works very good in the training. He is serious in the training. He listens to me, the coach and the staff,” said Cioaba.

The Romanian coach believes Landu still has considerable room for growth and wants him to remain at Dynamos long enough to continue developing.

“I think in the future he is a more good player. He need to stay for a long time here at Dynamos to help the team to best result,” he added.

That future, however, remains uncertain.

Landu’s current contract with Dynamos expires on December 31, 2026, and interest from other clubs is understood to be growing as his performances continue to attract attention.

Cioaba has made it clear that Dynamos want to move quickly to secure the defender’s future.

“The executive is waiting for me to report to extend his contract, so that we keep him next season. For us, Landu is more important. After this game, my report will go to the executive. I think in two weeks maximum, we will start negotiations and talk to the player for the next season,” said Cioaba.

“But for sure, Landu is in our plan. He improves game to game, training to training and we are pushing him to stay a long time with Dynamos,” he added.

While Agyemang continues to attract attention at the top end of the pitch, Landu has become an equally important figure at the other end.

Six Man of the Match awards have already put his name among the league’s standout performers, but the defender has his eyes on four more.
