Businessman Kudakwashe Tagwirei and nine other Senators were today sworn into office following their appointment by President Emmerson Mnangagwa under the amended Constitution.
The 10 Senators took their oaths during a swearing-in ceremony at Parliament, formally commencing their mandates as members of the Senate.
Their appointments were made pursuant to Section 120(1) of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, as amended, which provides for the appointment of 10 Senators by the President, chosen for their professional skills and other competencies after consultation with the National Assembly.

Parliament said the newly appointed Senators bring diverse professional expertise and competencies to the Upper House.
“The swearing-in ceremony marks the formal commencement of their mandate as Members of the Senate, bringing to Parliament their diverse professional expertise and competencies in support of the legislative, oversight and representational functions of Parliament,” Parliament said.
Tagwirei, a prominent businessman and investor, is among the high-profile appointees.
The 10 appointed Senators will participate in Parliament’s legislative, oversight and representational functions alongside other members of the Senate.
