High Court Hands Life Sentences to Cop Killers

 

 

The High Court of Zimbabwe sitting in Mutare has sentenced two men to life imprisonment for the murder of a member of the Zimbabwe Republic Police Support Unit.

The convicted individuals are Sanele Simbarashe Makono (23) of Hatcliffe Extension in Harare, and Sterio Joao Mahachi (55) of Machipanda, Mozambique. They were found guilty of killing police officer Travor Mundida.

According to court proceedings, the incident occurred on 10 September 2024 along the Mutare–Harare railway line, opposite Yeovil Location in Mutare.

Makono, Mahachi and an accomplice who is still at large attacked and stabbed Mundida multiple times using unknown weapons.

The assailants robbed the officer of his wallet, Samsung cellphone and shoes before fleeing the scene. The stolen cellphone was later sold in Mozambique.

Mundida’s body was discovered lying face down, with six stab wounds to the back, rib cage, buttock and hip.

The court cited the brutal nature of the attack in handing down life sentences to the two convicted men.
