Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa has dismissed as fake an account registered under his name on X.

This comes as the account surfaced after his dismissal from the post of Minister of Veterans of Liberation Struggle Affairs by President Mnangagwa. With reasons for his dismissal unknown, there has been speculation from the public, with the fake account among perpetrators of misinformation on his dismissal.

In a statement seen by Zim Now, the Zanu PF spokesperson said that he has no association or knowledge of the account with it being an agenda by unknown attendants.

“A fake X account using my name and likeness named @cmutsangwa (@cmutsvangwa1) has come to my attention. I have no association nor knowledge of the above named account. I urge all Zimbabweans to disregard and report that parody account and any other,” Mutsvangwa said.

Meanwhile, Taurai Kandishaya has written to the Parliament of Zimbabwe proposing for the establishment of a social media regulatory board and content moderation standards emanating from the abuse by the general public of various social media spaces.

In his proposal, Kandishaya seeks to emphasise the need for a specific legislative and legal framework that guides use, protect users and foster a co-existence of traditional and digital media.

“The ever-evolving landscape of social media and its increasing impact on our society underscore the pressing need for a specific legislative and regulatory framework,” Kandishaya said.

He adds that the existing legislation, including the Freedom of Information Act, Cyber and Data Protection Act and constitutional provisions, lack the precision required to effectively address the unique dynamics of social media.

“I kindly request the Parliament’s consideration of this comprehensive proposal, as I believe the establishment of both a dedicated Social Media Regulatory Board and Content Moderation Standards is crucial for navigating the complexities of the digital landscape,” he added.
