A man who pretended to assist a woman whose car had broken down turned out to be an opportunistic thief.
Program Marume, 21, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi charged with theft.
The State, through prosecutor Anesu Chirenje, alleges that on August 11, 2023 at around 0100hrs, the complainant’s car developed a mechanical problem at corner Sixth and Samora Machel Avenue in Harare.
Marume and two other accused persons who are on remand went to her and offered help.
One Panashe Nyamurova was given on iPhone 14 Pro Max by the complainant to use for lighting.
As the complainant was opening her car door, the other accused snatched an iPhone 13 Pro Max from the complainant and the trio fled.
The complainant made a police report, Marume who had been captured by a CCTV was arrested.
Marume will appear in court on August 18 for bail application.
