
Kenyan President William Ruto has sent condolences to the families of those killed in a helicopter crash in Zimbabwe, including businessman Wicknell Chivayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke.
Ruto described Chivayo as a “dear friend” in a message posted on X on October 1, saying he was deeply saddened by the deaths.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic passing of my friend, Wicknell Chivayo, together with his wife, Lucy Muteke, and the other lives lost in the helicopter crash in Zimbabwe,” Ruto said.
He described Chivayo as a friend whose warmth had touched many people and said he would remember him for his friendship, energy and belief in Africa’s potential.

Ruto also extended his condolences to President Emmerson Mnangagwa, the people of Zimbabwe and the families of all those who died.
Chivayo and Muteke were among the six people killed when the helicopter crashed in the Marondera area on Wednesday evening, according to family spokesperson Herbert Chivayo.
Police said the aircraft crashed at about 5pm, with emergency services responding to the scene.
Police spokesperson Paul Nyathi said the bodies were badly burned and would need to be formally identified.
Authorities said the identities of the victims would be confirmed after the formal identification process.
