Two Form Three students from Zvishavane High School are feared dead after drowning at Mkoropaini, near CG, opposite the old Shabanie Mine stores in Zvishavane.
The incident reportedly occurred on Tuesday, with the bodies of the two boys retrieved from the water on Wednesday.
Mkoropaini is understood to have been a mine dumping site used by Shabanie Mine for years before eventually becoming a water body.
However, the site has since become a popular swimming spot for children from nearby suburbs, including Makwasha, Kandodo and Eastlea, despite the dangers posed by the water.

According to eyewitnesses, the tragedy unfolded when one of the boys got into difficulty while swimming and began shouting for help. His friend reportedly rushed to rescue him but also drowned in the process.
One eyewitness said children had been swimming at the site for years, although the area had previously witnessed similar tragedies.
“Children have been swimming here for years, but unfortunately, some have lost their lives. This happened after the first boy drowned while asking to be rescued. His friend came to assist him, but he also drowned,” the witness said.
Further details surrounding the incident, including the identities and ages of the deceased students, are still awaited.
