The Bindura Magistrates’ Court has sentenced two Bindura men to 10 years in prison each after they were convicted of digging up and damaging a six-metre ZETDC armoured electricity cable behind a primary school in Bindura.
Claudius Sikelo, 27, of Section 7, Trojan Mine, Bindura, and Foster Tsvekese Kamhaka, 27, of Chiwaridzo 2, Bindura, were convicted of unlawfully damaging and interfering with electricity infrastructure.
The complainant is the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company.
According to the State, on June 25, 2026, at approximately 12.30am, Sikelo and Kamhaka went to 2787 Aerodrome, behind Chipindura Primary School in Bindura.
The court heard that the two dug up a buried four-core armoured electricity cable measuring approximately six metres and belonging to ZETDC.
Their actions were discovered after a local resident heard suspicious digging noises behind his house.

Upon investigating, the resident found the two men digging near an electricity transformer.
He mobilised neighbours, who gave chase as the pair attempted to flee.
The two were apprehended at the scene.
A hacksaw blade and a hoe, which were allegedly used in the commission of the offence, were recovered and produced as exhibits in court.
The damage was assessed at US$420.
The Bindura Magistrates’ Court sentenced both men to 10 years in prison each.
