CAPS United’s impressive cup performances this season have begun to show signs of reviving their reputation as Zimbabwean cup kings, with the Green Machine enjoying a promising run in both the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup and the Chibuku Super Cup.
The Harare giants have endured several years without adding a major cup trophy to their cabinet, but their performances in the two competitions in 2026 have brought renewed optimism at the club.
CAPS United remain in contention for the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup, where they are set to face fellow Premier Soccer League side Manica Diamonds in the Round of 16.
Their progress in the Chibuku Super Cup has also strengthened belief that the club could end its long wait for cup success.
The Green Machine booked their place in the quarter-finals after edging Simba Bhora 3-2 and were rewarded with a last-eight tie against ZPC Kariba, with the Chibuku Super Cup quarter final matches are scheduled for 12 and 13 September.
Following the Chibuku Super Cup quarter final draw, CAPS United chief executive officer Morton Dodzo said reaching the next round had significantly boosted the club's chances of going all the way.

“The fact that we have proceeded to the next round, for us, it gives us a high chance of winning it, because if you check history, in most cases we were knocked out in the first round,” Dodzo said.
“So our chances of winning, getting into the final, are very high. And if you also notice that we are doing well in cups this season, we are very happy. We are hoping to do well, we are hoping to reach the final, and we will invite you for the celebrations when we win the team.”
A week ago speaking after Munhumutapa Challenge Cup draw CAPS United CEO also stressed the importance of respecting every opponent.
“It’s the draw. It has been a fair draw, and we respect our opponent; we’re within the same Premier League, so we’re hoping to have an exciting and very competitive match,” said Dodzo.
CAPS United's immediate challenge will be to maintain their current momentum as they balance their cup commitments, with the club now within touching distance of the latter stages of two competitions.
The Chibuku Super Cup quarter-final draw has produced several intriguing encounters, with CAPS United facing ZPC Kariba, Highlanders taking on MWOS FC, Dynamos meeting FC Hunters, while Scottland will face Hardrock FC.
