The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) has reaffirmed its commitment to athletics by extending crucial financial support to the national men’s 4x400m relay team ahead of the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone.
The quartet of Gerren Muwishi, Leeford Zuze, Thandazani Ndlovu, and Dennis Hove will represent the nation at the global showpiece scheduled for May 2–3.
As part of the support package, ZOC will fully fund the team’s air travel to Botswana, where they are set to undergo a week-long high-performance training camp prior to the championships. The initiative is aimed at fine-tuningdeb preparations and enhancing competitiveness on the international stage.
ZOC Chief Executive Officer Marlene Gadzirayi expressed confidence in the team’s potential during a send-off ceremony held in Harare.

“As ZOC, we are excited by what the team has achieved. Athletics remains our number one priority sport, and we are proud to support the relay team on their journey. Our broader vision is to qualify for the World Athletics Championships in China next year and ultimately the LA28 Olympic Games,” she said.
The National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ) has also thrown its weight behind the squad. Its president, Tendai Tagara, highlighted long-term ambitions centered on Olympic qualification.
“Our target is to have two relay teams at the Olympic Games in Los Angeles. With many of our top sprinters based in the United States, we are confident of building a strong 4x100 team as well. Given the current form of this 4x400 squad, with individual times in the 44–45 second range, qualification for LA28 is within reach,” Tagara noted.
Zimbabwe’s qualification for the World Relays comes on the back of a historic achievement, with the team recently breaking a 27-year-old national record — a milestone that has reignited optimism within the country’s athletics community.
