Zimbabwe’s men’s 4x400m relay team is preparing for a crucial challenge as they aim to qualify for the 2026 World Athletics Relays in Botswana. Their first opportunity comes at the Maseru International Meet in Lesotho on 21 March, where they will compete against top regional athletes with the goal of securing a place among the world’s 24 fastest relay teams. The team will also participate in the Lefika International Relays on 28 March, providing another chance to post a qualifying time and fine-tune their baton exchanges ahead of the global event.
Representing Zimbabwe in Lesotho are Leeford Zuze, Dennis Hove, Thandazani Ndlovu, and Gerren Muwishi, with Ropafadzo Muzondo traveling as a reserve. Muwishi, Hove, and Zuze bring valuable experience, having been part of the Zimbabwean squad that competed at the 2025 World Athletics Relays in China.

Speaking about the upcoming meets, Phakamile Lisimati, Director of Coaching, Talent Identification and Development at the National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (NAAZ), said, “Our locally based 4x400m team will be competing in Lesotho, marking our first attempt to qualify for the 2026 World Relays. They will also race at the Lefika International Relays. If they qualify in Lesotho, we’ll then focus on improving their time in Botswana to enhance our chances.”
Lisimati also provided an update on the 4x100m relay team. He noted that Zimbabwe’s fastest sprinters are currently competing overseas. “We’re working with coaches abroad to assemble a team. Unfortunately, athletes in the US will be tied up with NCAA Championships and exams during this period. We will also put together a local team and assess their performance based on their times,” he explained.
