
The High Court sitting in Gweru has sentenced an 18-year-old Silobela resident to 20 years in prison after convicting him of murdering a 55-year-old man in a brutal attack on Christmas Day last year.
Samson Simbarashe Tichagwa was found guilty of the murder, which occurred at around 9pm in Chief Gobo area, Silobela. The court heard that Tichagwa and the deceased were socialising when an altercation broke out.

During the confrontation, Tichagwa kicked the victim before repeatedly striking him with a white steel chair while he lay on the ground. A neighbour who attempted to intervene was attacked by Tichagwa, who choked and pinned him to the ground.
The offender later went to his homestead and returned with a small axe, which he used to strike the victim on the left leg. The injured man was subsequently dragged to his home, about 800 metres away, where he later succumbed to his injuries while awaiting transportation to hospital.
Justice was delivered in Gweru as Tichagwa was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for the crime.
