Fans have expressed strong displeasure over the Premier Soccer League’s proposal to expand the league, claiming the move is an attempt to save Dynamos from possible relegation.
In a press release issued yesterday, PSL Communications and Media Liaison Officer Kudzai Bare announced: “The PSL resolved to suspend relegation for the 2025 season. The League will accommodate the newly promoted teams, resulting in an expanded league of twenty-two teams for a transitional period during the 2026 season.”

The announcement immediately sparked outrage online, with supporters alleging that the timing conveniently benefits Dynamos, who are battling relegation with just one fixture remaining. The club must win their final match to boost their survival chances.
“I hate this league, I’m actually tired. Every time Dynamos is fighting relegation, the whole league bends. Rules change, relegation suspended, expansion announced — all magically timed. What’s the point of competition if the script is already written?” wrote a fan using the username Terminator on X.
Dynamos currently sit 13th on the table with 38 points, just one point clear of teams in the relegation zone. They face a tough encounter against FC Platinum on Sunday, where a win would take them to 41 points and secure their top-flight status.
Another supporter, Freddie Michael Masarirevu, commented: “Dynamos FC, you are a great club with great history. However, football is competition, and you must fight to survive relegation.
"That applies to the rest of the teams in the drop zone. Survival should not be based on some board meetings but play in the field.”
The proposal has since been dismissed by ZIFA, which stressed that promotion and relegation are fundamental components of football competition and essential for preserving the integrity, fairness, and sporting merit of the league system.
