China, Zimbabwe Commemorate Shared History on Heroes Day

On Zimbabwe’s Heroes Day, China’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Zhou Ding, paid tribute to the nation’s fallen heroes, underscoring the deep historical ties between the two countries and their shared journey toward independence and development.

In a statement posted on X, Ambassador Zhou honored “Zimbabwe’s gallant sons and daughters who sacrificed for this nation’s freedom and sovereignty,” noting that their courage continues to inspire unity and progress. He highlighted the solidarity forged during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, when China provided crucial diplomatic support, military training, and material assistance from the 1960s onwards.

“From the 1960s onward, we stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Zimbabwean patriots,” the Ambassador wrote, recalling China’s role in the fight against colonial rule. “This historic solidarity laid the foundation for our unbreakable bond.”

Zimbabwe’s Heroes Day is an annual national holiday held to honor those who fought and died for the country’s independence, marking their enduring legacy in shaping the nation’s identity.

Ambassador Zhou’s message emphasized that the friendship between the two countries is not only rooted in history but also directed toward the future. He expressed China’s commitment to “building on their legacy and striving for a brighter and shared future,” pledging continued cooperation in areas such as economic development, infrastructure, and cultural exchange.

“May the heroes’ courage and resilience continue to inspire us all,” he said, “and their vision guide Zimbabwe toward ever greater unity and prosperity.”

The commemoration serves as a reminder of the enduring impact of the liberation struggle, as well as the ongoing partnership between China and Zimbabwe—a relationship built on mutual respect, shared sacrifice, and a common vision for the future.
