A Zvimba man has been arraigned before the court accused of stealing US$2 000 from his employer and using it for personal gain.

Joseph Malunga ,42, appeared before magistrate Ruth Moyo at the Harare Magistrates' Courts facing charges of theft of trust property. He was remanded in custody.

Prosecutor Takudzwa Jambawu told the court that between January 1 and February 28, Malunga was employed as a commuter omnibus driver by the complainant and was tasked with collecting daily takings from other drivers and handing the money over to his manager.

Malunga allegedly received US$2,000 from several commuter omnibus drivers during that period but failed to pass it on to the complainant.

Instead, he is accused of using the money for personal use.

When he became evasive, the complainant reported the matter to the police. Malunga was later arrested following a trap set by law enforcement.
