Hardware operator in court over US$7k cement deal

A Madokero hardware operator appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing theft of trust property charges after allegedly selling 600 bags of cement supplied on trust and failing to pay the wholesaler despite receiving payment from the buyer.

Sinazeni Dube (55) of Madokero is accused of prejudicing a cement supplier of US$7 500.

The complainant is Tafadzwa Musakuro (43), a cement wholesaler.

The State alleges that on January 3, 2026, Dube approached Musakuro claiming she operated a hardware business selling cement and other building materials and had secured a cash client interested in purchasing 600 bags of Dangote R42.5 cement.

She allegedly requested that the cement consignment be delivered to her hardware shop at Tynwald Shops in Harare, assuring the complainant that payment would be made in cash upon collection by the buyer.

Acting on the representation, Musakuro supplied 600 bags of cement on the same day at a price of US$12.50 per bag.

Three days later, the complainant made follow-ups on payment, and Dube reportedly indicated that the cement had not yet been supplied to the client.

However, about a week later, Musakuro visited the hardware shop and allegedly discovered that the cement had already been sold without any payment being made to him.

Dube allegedly produced a purchase order showing 596 bags of cement sold at US$13 per bag, with payment expected within 14 days.

After the agreed payment period elapsed, Musakuro contacted Dube again but was allegedly informed that payment had still not been received.

The complainant later contacted the purported buyer, who confirmed that payment for the cement had already been made to Dube.

Prosecutors told the court that subsequent follow-ups yielded only false promises, and the accused allegedly became evasive, prompting a police report.

The total value prejudiced is US$7 500.

Dube is expected back in court on May 22, 2026.
