A 38-year-old businessman and his company have appeared at the Harare Magistrates Court facing allegations of stealing US$11,550 meant to clear and transport luggageware imported from China.
Edwell Ngwenya, 38, and Novum Intium Private Limited, represented by Ngwenya as its director, are charged with theft of trust property.
The complainant, Shriji Luggageware Private Limited, allegedly engaged the accused in October 2025 to clear and transport three containers of luggageware raw materials imported from China.
The court heard that Ngwenya quoted US$25,000 for the service, which the complainant paid in full.
Prosecutors allege that although Ngwenya assured the company that the goods would be delivered to its premises, the consignment was not delivered.

The complainant later conducted its own investigations and allegedly discovered that freight charges from Beira to Harare, telex release fees and Beira Port clearance charges had not been paid.
As a result, the three containers remained at Beira Port in Mozambique.
The State alleges that Ngwenya converted US$11,550 meant for the outstanding charges to his personal use and failed to account for the money when asked to do so.
The complainant was subsequently forced to pay the outstanding charges directly to secure the release of the goods.
A police report was made, leading to investigations and the arrest of Ngwenya and the company.
The total alleged prejudice is US$11,550.
The matter was remanded for further proceedings.
