The Southern African Development Community will convene a Joint Meeting of Ministers responsible for Energy and Water in Harare, Zimbabwe, on July 4, 2025, to review progress and strengthen regional cooperation in infrastructure development, energy access, and water resource management.
The ministerial session will be preceded by a meeting of SADC Senior Officials on Energy and Water from June 30 to July 2, the SADC Secretariat confirmed in a press statement issued from Gaborone on Monday.
The high-level meeting comes as the region intensifies efforts to accelerate integration and improve basic services amid growing demand for reliable power and clean water. Energy ministers will deliberate on regional energy demand and supply, renewable energy adoption, infrastructure project implementation, and regulation of the petroleum and gas sectors.
Among key items on the agenda is preparedness for the Dar es Salaam Declaration on Mission 300, a continental initiative aiming to provide electricity access to at least 300 million people in Sub-Saharan Africa by 2030. Ministers will also consider new technologies, including green hydrogen and smart grids, and discuss recommendations from the recent regional dialogue on a Just Energy Transition Framework for SADC.
