Tobacco Sales Surge Past 176 Million Kgs

Tobacco sales have maintained a strong upward trajectory, with 176.7 million kilograms sold by Day 47 of the 2025 marketing season.

The sales have generated US$597.98 million, marking a notable increase from the same period last year when 147.9 million kgs were sold for US$521.34 million.

“This represents a significant rise in both volume and value — a testament to the hard work of our growers and all players across the value chain,” said the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board in a statement.

In 2024, the industry had recorded slower progress at this stage, with volumes lagging despite favorable weather. Analysts at the time cited delayed rainfall and reduced planting in some areas as key factors behind the dip.

The 2025 season is shaping up to be one of the most rewarding for farmers and stakeholders, buoyed by improved yields, strong global demand, and favorable prices.

With several weeks remaining in the marketing season, TIMB remains optimistic that the momentum will continue.
