Zimra puts 50 cars under the hammer

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) yesterday that it plans to put about 50 impounded and unclaimed vehicles under the hammer.

The lot includes top-of-the range vehicle models that have been stuck at its depots for as long as 13 years.

This is contained in the latest government gazette, in which Zimra Commissioner-General Regina Chinamasa said if the vehicles are not claimed in 30 days, they would be auctioned.

“Notice is hereby given in terms of section 193(11) of the Customs and Excise Act [Chapter 23:02], that the following goods that are specified in the schedule below have been seized/detained and will be dealt with in terms of section 193(13) of the Customs and Excise Act [Chapter 23:02] if proceedings are not instituted in terms of section 193(12) of the Customs and Excise Act [Chapter 23:02].

“The owners of these goods are unknown and the goods will be sold if not claimed within thirty days of publication of this notice,” Chinamasa said.

The list shows that 37 of the vehicles are at Manica Depot in Beitbridge while 11 are at Harare’s Bak Storage container. In terms of section 193 of the Act, any person from whom the articles have been seized may institute proceedings for the recovery of the property within three months after which no such proceedings may be instituted.
