Two assailants on Friday allegedly struck a 28-year-old Zhombe man to death while on his way home from a business centre.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said the heinous incident occurred on Friday at around 7PM near Malamula business centre in Zhombe.
“It is alleged that the now deceased Nomatter Ndlovu was on his way home from Malamula business centre, Zhombe in company of his uncle Brendon Moyo, 18, when they were approached by Noel Siziba, 25, of Bakhwiya Village in Zhombe and Mehluli Dube aged, 27, of the same village,” he said.
Inspector Mahoko said the two reportedly threatened to strike Ndlovu with an axe for an unspecified reason.
He said Siziba then drew an axe and struck Ndlovu once on the head while Dube struck him all over the body using an unknown object.
“Moyo managed to escape and came back later to check on Ndlovu and found him lying lifeless on the ground,” he said.
Meanwhile, in a similar but unrelated incident which occurred in Shurugwi, on the same day, a 22-year-old Zaka man died after being stabbed with knives.
“On the same day at around 9pm, Pasca Kare of Dzoro Village under Chief Gachiti in Zaka and his uncle Enos Maniki, 21, of the same village, were at Zevezeve Shop, Railway Block Shops, Shurugwi when Tapiwa Nzapu, 20, of Railway Block, Shurugwi and one other only identified as Gora arrived at the shops and started accusing them of being troublesome,” he said.
Inspector Mahoko said Kare and his uncle ran away but Gora and Nzapu pursued them armed with knives until they caught up with Kare and stabbed him.
He said Maniki reportedly managed to escape and later returned and found Kare lying dead while bleeding from the chest.
“The suspects had already fled. The matter was reported at ZRP Shurugwi and investigations commenced. The body of the deceased is at Shurugwi District Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem,” Insp Mahoko said.
Inspector Mahoko urged members of the public to desist from resorting to violence when resolving disputes to avoid unnecessary loss of lives.
“We also appeal for any information that may lead to the arrest of Noel Siziba and Mehluli Dube all of Bakhwiya Village in Zhombe, Tapiwa Nzapu and one only identified as Gora of Shurugwi,” he said.
