Zimbabwean star Sikandar Raza says Chevrons’ historic win over Australia in a one-day international series in Townsville is what the team needs to march into the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 with confidence:
“The ODI victory will undoubtedly come as a major boost for Zimbabwe as they amp up the preparation for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia,” tweeted Raza.
Zimbabwe won the last draw to gain a respectable 2-1 loss to Australia. This is Zimbabwe first victory over Australia at home.
The current team appears to be destined for greater glory than ever achieved in the past.
In May 2021 the Chevrons scored their first ever victory over Pakistan in a Twenty20 international (T20I) match.

In August 2022, Zimbabwe celebrated 2-1 victories over Bangladesh in the T20 and ODI series of Bangladesh’s Zimbabwe tour.
Coach Dave Houghton said that victory over Australia away could open chances for the team to play with more top teams.
“The more wins we can get on in tours like this, the more that our chances are we might get some bigger opponents on a regular basis,” said Houghton after the match.
But he warns that there is still a long way to go for Zimbabwe to reach levels of premium teams like Australia.
“The gulf is huge - make no error - we would struggle to beat your state sides on a good day. We are growing and hopefully we grow quite quickly and with the amount of cricket we’re starting to play and the fact that we are getting a few results like this ...”
Still Houghton is not refusing to bask in the well-earned glory: “..It’s nice to get these little reward top ups to show the guys what they’re doing is right.”
From the time that they joined Test Cricket, the Chevrons have won 13, drawn 28 and lost 74 matches out of a total of 115.
