A man shamelessly used ill-gotten wealth to fulfil his traditional obligation and pay lobola for his girlfriend.
Isaac Haruzive, 34, together with his two accomplices, Panashe Tsuro, 22, and Tongai Chirimumimba, 27, were asked not to plead when they appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi yesterday.
They were remanded in custody until today for their bail application.
The State alleges that the trio took a briefcase containing US$17 500 after intercepting another group of robbers who had stolen it from the director of Q Bar in Five Avenue.
The court heard that on January 31, this year, Kuzivakwashe Ngwasha and his friends stole the briefcase from the director of Q Bar but however, would not enjoy the ill-gotten loot as they were intercepted by Isaac, Panashe and Tongai while fleeing.
When the trio were about to apprehend Kuzivakwashe, he chose his life instead of the briefcase full of cash and fled the scene, leaving the briefcase.
The trio opened the briefcase, and they couldn’t believe their luck when they saw it was full of cash.
They resolved not to return the briefcase to the director of Q Bar and shared the ill-gotten loot between themselves. Armed with the cash, Isaac sought to transform his life.
He used his share of the loot to purchase building materials with the view of building a house. The building materials included 48 bags of cement.
