Couple stands accused of buying house from armed robbery proceeds

A man who gave his wife money which he got through robbery to buy a house has landed her in court.

Joyline Musamba, 33, residing in Chikanga Phase 2, Mutare, appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi at the Harare Magistrates’ Courts accused of money laundering.

The State, through prosecutor Grace Mugocheke, alleges that on August 21, 2023, Roy Pedzisai Jambaya, who is on remand, and his accomplices, committed an armed robbery at Corner Leopold Takawira Street and Bute Street, Harare.

They allegedly robbed US$128 932 from the complainant.

Musamba got his share of US$28 500.

He gave US$28 000 to Joyline, who is his wife. The accused person connived with her husband, Jambaya to purchase a house situated at number 8124 Natview Park, Mutare, knowing that the money which they were using was from proceeds of crime.

The value of the house is US$23 000.

Musamba was ordered to deposit US$200 to the clerk of court as bail.
