Delta marks 36 years of supporting Danhiko Games

Delta Corporation has marked 36 years of supporting the Danhiko Annual Games, reaffirming its commitment to creating opportunities for athletes with disabilities.

The 36th edition of the Games officially opened on Saturday, bringing together athletes competing in swimming, goalball, wheelchair basketball and wheelchair tennis.

The Games provide a national platform for athletes with disabilities to showcase their talent and compete for honours.

“Delta Corporation is proud to have supported the Danhiko Annual Games for 36 years,” the company said.

“This partnership reflects our belief that talent exists everywhere, even when opportunity is not equally available.”

The company said its support had continued from the beginning of the Games, which were initially known as the Chibuku Danhiko Games.

The Games carried the Chibuku name until 2010, when sponsorship transitioned to the Delta Corporation corporate brand.

Delta said the change was part of its commitment to responsible marketing and ensuring its partnerships remained inclusive and appropriate for the communities it serves.

For this year’s Games, Delta has contributed US$13,000 towards athletes’ awards.

The company said the contribution was meant to recognise the athletes’ sporting achievements, preparation and discipline.

“Sport has the power to change how people see themselves and how society sees them,” Delta said.

“It creates visibility, challenges stereotypes and shifts attention from limitation to capability.”

The company said inclusion should go beyond allowing people to participate and should provide them with opportunities to develop and compete.

“Inclusion is not simply an invitation to be present; it is the provision of a fair chance and the creation of a platform on which every person can compete, contribute and excel,” Delta said.

Delta also called for stronger pathways to help athletes move from community-level participation to national, regional and international competitions.

The company commended the Government, Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Danhiko Board of Trustees, coaches, officials, families, caregivers, volunteers and other partners for supporting the Games.

“After 36 years of partnership, Delta Corporation remains proud to stand with Danhiko,” the company said.

The 36th Danhiko Annual Games are being held under the theme of inclusion, opportunity and sporting excellence.
