Econet Wireless Zimbabwe has introduced a new 079 mobile number range, expanding its numbering capacity as the telecommunications operator continues to grow its subscriber base.
The company announced the new range, describing 079 as “fresh digits for a new era of connection.”

The introduction comes as the operator continues to expand its network and digital services. Econet said it had more than 16 million customers in 2025, after adding 132 new 5G sites during the year.
The company has continued investing in mobile connectivity beyond conventional voice services, with its current offerings spanning 4G and 5G connectivity, mobile money, digital services and artificial intelligence products.
The company did not disclose in the announcement how many numbers will be available under the new range or provide a specific timetable for phasing out or changing existing number ranges.
