
Eight Roman Catholic church members di3d on Saturday morning after a kombi they were travelling in plunged off Deka Bridge into the river below near Hwange.
The tragic accident occurred at around 7AM along Deka Road as the worshippers were returning from overnight prayers at St John’s Makwa Mission.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the vehicle was carrying 13 occupants when the driver reportedly lost control and struck the concrete barriers of the bridge before the kombi toppled into the water.

Five people survived the crash, although their conditions were not immediately known.
In a statement, national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the fatal accident.
“Eight Roman Catholic members died when their kombi plunged into the bridge as they were coming from night prayers,” said Nyathi.
Police said further details surrounding the accident would be released after investigations are completed.
