A 46-year-old Karoi man has been sentenced to an effective 18 months in prison after he was convicted of malicious damage to property for setting his neighbour's hut and household belongings on fire.
Herod Namalawa appeared before the Karoi Regional Magistrates Court, where he was found guilty of destroying property valued at US$684.
The court heard that the incident occurred on June 28, 2026, at Shola Park Farm Plot 3 in Karoi.

The complainant testified that he was awakened by people shouting that his hut was on fire. Despite efforts to extinguish the flames, the fire had already spread, destroying the hut and its contents.
After the fire was put out, the complainant noticed footprints around the burnt hut. Prosecutors said the footprints matched those previously seen near Namalawa's property.
The footprints were tracked to a nearby field, where Namalawa was found lying down and subsequently arrested.
The court heard that the fire completely destroyed the hut and several household items, resulting in losses estimated at US$684.
