Security Guard Faces Murder Charge Over Fatal Shawasha Hills Shooting

 

A 29-year-old security guard has appeared before the Harare Magistrates' Court facing murder charges following a fatal shooting incident that occurred in Shawasha Hills earlier this month.

Edwin Kapfudzarurwa, a resident of Mudzi District, is accused of fatally shooting an assistant builder during a confrontation on April 3, 2026.

Prosecutor Polite Chikiwa told the court that Kapfudzarurwa was on duty providing security services at a property in Shawasha Hills when he allegedly confronted the now-deceased man, accusing him of theft.

According to the State, the deceased had been walking towards Food Basket Supermarket when the confrontation escalated, resulting in Kapfudzarurwa allegedly firing a shot.

The court heard that the victim was later discovered by his cousin, Tinashe Jeche, lying in a pool of blood and showing no signs of life.

Police reportedly recovered a .303 rifle and a spent cartridge case at the scene before arresting the accused.

Kapfudzarurwa remains in custody and is expected to return to court on April 20 as investigations continue.
