Sewing Her Way to Stability: Samantha Mapuranga Builds a Future Through Fashion

Samantha Mapuranga

At 31, Samantha Anitah Mapuranga is quietly building a fashion business while raising her children as a single mother. Through her brand, STUNISE — Stunning Unique Sew, she has turned sewing into both a livelihood and a path toward stability.

Her journey into entrepreneurship was not carefully planned. It was driven by responsibility and the need to provide.

“Becoming a single mother completely changed my mindset,” she says.

“I stopped waiting for help. I stopped hoping someone would rescue me. I began focusing on independence, stability, and creating a secure future for my children.”

Mapuranga started her business with limited resources and little formal support. Her first products were winter indoor shoes for children, which she made and sold locally. Each sale allowed her to save toward better equipment and materials.

Over time, those small steps led to a significant milestone: purchasing her first heavy-duty sewing machine. For her, it represented more than just a tool of trade — it marked the moment the business began to feel real.

Through STUNISE, Mapuranga now produces customised garments and fashion pieces designed to highlight individuality and confidence. She says sewing has become more than a means of earning income; it has also been a way to rebuild her confidence and independence.

The early stages of the business were challenging. There were days with few customers, slow sales, and moments of uncertainty.

Yet persistence became her strategy.

“Through advertising and showing up confidently with my work, my business slowly began to grow,” she says.

As demand increased, so did her confidence in the brand she was building.

Balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship remains one of her greatest challenges. Managing clients, deadlines, and household responsibilities often means long days and little rest.

Despite the pressure, Mapuranga says the greatest reward is not just the growth of her business, but the example she is setting for her children.

“For me, the biggest achievement is knowing I built something while raising my kids,” she says.

Her message to other young women, particularly single mothers, is rooted in practicality rather than perfection.

“Start where you are and use what you have,” she says. “You don’t need everything to be perfect before you begin.”

Today, STUNISE continues to grow steadily, with Mapuranga focused on expanding her client base and refining her designs.

“I am not just a tailor,” she says. “I am a fashion designer and a mother building something for my children.”

For Mapuranga, every garment she produces represents more than fabric and thread. It represents progress — one stitch at a time.
