
Tunisian President Kais Saied has extended the nationwide state of emergency until December 31, 2026, according to a presidential decree published on Friday.
The decree, dated January 30 and published in the Official Gazette of the Tunisian Republic, states that the state of emergency will remain in force from January 31, 2026, through the end of the year.

Under Tunisia’s emergency law, authorities are granted expanded powers, including the ability to impose house arrests, ban public meetings, enforce curfews, monitor media activity, restrict assemblies and impose media censorship without prior judicial approval.
Tunisia has been under a state of emergency since November 24, 2015, when the measure was first introduced following a bomb attack on a bus carrying presidential guards in Tunis that killed 12 security personnel.
The emergency measures have been repeatedly renewed over the past decade, keeping the country under continuous emergency rule since their initial declaration.
