The Zimbabwe Handball Federation (ZHF), in partnership with the Mama Susan Foundation, is set to host the inaugural Binga Beach Handball Tournament from 6 to 7 December 2025.
The event marks a major step in introducing and expanding beach handball in Zimbabwe and across the Southern African region.
ZHF President Taurai Muberekwa confirmed that this will be the first edition of the tournament, describing it as a significant milestone for the federation.
“This is the first ever edition of beach handball. We have a natural beach in Binga which we want to market,” he said. The launch is expected to enhance Zimbabwe’s sporting profile while positioning Binga as a unique destination for both sport and tourism.
Muberekwa also noted strong regional interest. “We invited our neighbouring countries Zambia, Eswatini, and South Africa, and they are showing interest as well. We are expecting those countries to send clubs to Zimbabwe to have a feel of beach handball,” he said.
He added that participation from regional clubs will boost competition and help grow the sport across the Zone VI region.

According to him, if local clubs continue to develop, “we are going to have a strong national team of beach handball, and this positions Zimbabwe as the backbone of beach handball within the region.”
The partnership with the Mama Susan Foundation brings an important community and business dimension to the event. Muberekwa described Mama Susan as “a businesswoman who gave herself to say I am sponsoring sports.”
Her ownership of lodges in Binga means the tournament will not only attract sporting attention but also stimulate local economic activity. Boating services, transport operators, vendors, and hospitality providers are all expected to benefit.
Community involvement remains a core focus, with the tournament running under the theme Stop Drug and Substance Abuse Now.
Muberekwa said the event will allow locals to “see how sport brings business and positive change to the community.”
He concluded by encouraging more partners to join the initiative. “We are calling all like-minded Zimbabweans, businesses, and the tourism sector to partner with us in these efforts,” he said.
