The Hockey Association of Zimbabwe has officially confirmed that the Zimbabwe Under-21 Women’s Hockey Team will participate in the 2025 FIH Junior World Cup, set to take place in Santiago, Chile, this December.
This announcement comes shortly after reports circulated suggesting that the team had failed to participate in the Junior World Cup qualifiers due to a lack of funding. The new statement from HAZ puts those concerns to rest, affirming the team’s readiness and full participation in the upcoming global tournament.
HAZ stated, “The Hockey Association of Zimbabwe (HAZ) is delighted to confirm that the Zimbabwe Under-21 Women’s Hockey Team will be participating in the upcoming FIH Junior World Cup, scheduled to take place in Santiago, Chile, in December 2025.”

The association attributed this milestone to the intervention and support of the Ministry of Sport, Arts, Recreation and Culture. “This exciting development follows the valued intervention and support of the Ministry… whose guidance and assistance have ensured that Zimbabwe’s young women will have the opportunity to represent the nation on the world stage,” HAZ said.
HAZ also expressed appreciation to the Honourable Minister and the Ministry for their continued commitment to the growth and development of hockey in Zimbabwe. “Their involvement has made it possible for the players, coaches, and management team to continue their preparations with renewed confidence and national pride,” the statement read.
The association further called on the nation to unite behind the young team. “HAZ calls upon all stakeholders, partners, and supporters to rally behind the team as they embark on this exciting journey to represent Zimbabwe with pride and excellence,” the release concluded.
The confirmation has been received with relief and excitement among sports fans, many of whom had been concerned about the future of the team following the earlier funding challenges. With official backing now secured, Zimbabwe’s U21 women’s hockey players are set to carry the nation’s hopes as they compete against the world’s best in Chile later this year.
