Small Gestures, Big Impact: Local Man Donates Bus to Bring Elderly Residents to Church

What seemed like a small gesture has made a monumental difference for the elderly residents of St. Mary’s.

Freddy Masarirevu, a local community member, donated an 18-seater bus with a heartfelt purpose: to ensure that senior citizens have a free and reliable way to get to church every Sunday.

"I have decided to give the people of St. Mary’s this bus—an 18-seater that shall be used on Sundays only—to carry elderly people who may not be able to travel to church by themselves," Masarirevu shared.

"This bus will ferry you to and from church free of charge. Any church. You will need to register."

The announcement was met with overwhelming gratitude. For many seniors, mobility challenges and the rising cost of public transportation had turned what was once a simple Sunday routine into an insurmountable obstacle.

Church had become a place they could only visit in their memories, a distant comfort they could no longer physically reach.

The bus has become a visible symbol of the community’s heart. On its first day of service, the impact was immediate and profound.

"We successfully did that today, and the numbers were great," Masarirevu said, noting the success of the inaugural run. "Next week, there should be no reason for anyone to miss church."
