
A 23-year-old man from Dzivarasekwa 2, Harare, appeared before magistrate Apollonia Marutya facing murder charges following the death of a relative after a violent altercation over missing money.
Obert Chanetsa is being charged with murder as defined under Section 47 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act. He will return to court on September 27.
According to the State, on August 24, 2025, at around 7 a.m., Chanetsa allegedly assaulted the now-deceased, Nicolas Chanetsa, at number 1738/23 Mashambanzou Street, Dzivarasekwa 2.
The two reportedly had a heated argument after Obert accused Nicolas of stealing his money.

The altercation escalated, and Obert allegedly struck Nicolas several times on the head with an unidentified blunt object.
The deceased sustained severe head injuries and bled profusely from the nose and occiput. He was rushed to Parirenyatwa Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
After the incident, Obert fled the scene and went into hiding in Dotito, where he was eventually apprehended by police on September 11, 2025.
He was remanded in custody, and investigations are still ongoing.
