
A 39-year-old man allegedly part of a 10-member gang that raided Econet Cassava offices in Borrowdale, Harare, and stole US$61,000 at gunpoint has appeared in court.
Tendai Nzvengwa, 39, appeared before Harare magistrate Lazini Ncube facing armed robbery charges.
The court heard that on March 31, 2026, Nzvengwa and his nine accomplices, who are still at large, allegedly went to Econet Cassava offices in Borrowdale armed with pistols and rifles and wearing balaclavas.
It is alleged that upon arrival, they confronted two security guards who were seated at the front of the offices, force-marched them into the reception area and ordered them to lie on their stomachs with their heads covered.
They allegedly tied the guards’ hands behind their backs using shoelaces.

Prosecutors allege that the gang also disarmed one of the witnesses of an FBM pistol, serial number 31011760, which was loaded with six live rounds.
Some of the accused allegedly remained behind to guard the complainants while others went upstairs.
The court heard that the accused allegedly used a grinder to cut open a safe in the reception area, behind the counter, and stole US$61,000 in cash.
Meanwhile, other accomplices allegedly went to the warehouse in the same complex, where they confronted five other security guards who were on duty.
They allegedly brought the guards to the reception area, forced them to lie down and tied their hands behind their backs with shoelaces before fleeing the scene.
Detectives from CID Homicide Harare received information on October 1, 2026, which led to Nzvengwa’s arrest at a hotel in Gweru.
