The National Premier League title race is now a two-horse contest after another weekend of emphatic wins for leaders Rangers and closest challengers Takashinga Patriots 1.
At Old Georgians Sports Club, Rangers showcased the ruthless consistency that has carried them to the summit, brushing aside Gladiators by nine wickets to preserve their unbeaten record.
Chasing 201, Jarod Basson (88 not out) and Dion Myers (70 not out) combined in an unbroken 167-run stand that sealed victory with more than 15 overs to spare.
Rangers remain flawless with nine wins from nine matches, sitting on 18 points and boasting a commanding net run rate of 3.851.
Takashinga Patriots 1, however, are refusing to let the leaders pull away. In Kwekwe, Innocent Kaia’s sparkling century powered their 88-run win over Mbizo.
Kaia struck 102, supported by Joylord Gumbie’s 52, to set up a total of 242 for nine before Graeme Cremer’s 4 for 21 bowled out Mbizo for 154.
The win lifted Takashinga to 16 points, with just a single defeat keeping them within striking distance of the frontrunners.
Amakhosi 1 trail slightly behind on 14 points despite Brian Chari’s 117 steering them past Methane Lions.
With only a few rounds left, the NPL crown looks increasingly likely to be decided between the unbeaten Rangers and a relentless Takashinga side intent on hunting them down.
Their looming clash promises to be the defining moment of the campaign.
