Ryan Gwidzima and Polite Mubure were crowned national champions at the 2025 Zimbabwe National Squash Championships, held over the weekend of August 1st to 3rd at Highlands Squash Club in Harare.

Gwidzima overcame four-time national champion Blessing Muhwati in a gripping five-game final to win the Men’s A Section, while Mubure claimed the Ladies' Section title with a commanding straight-games victory over rising star Natasha Gwidzima.

Yet it was 16-year-old Allen Masiya who captured hearts and headlines after winning the Men’s B Section on his birthday. Representing St. George’s College, Masiya navigated a tough draw to defeat older and more experienced players, marking a standout performance that signals his emergence as one of Zimbabwe’s most promising young squash talents.

The tournament, organised by Nishyto Munyoro on behalf of the Squash Rackets Association of Zimbabwe, with assistance from Tatenda Mutimutema, brought together top local and foreign-based players across multiple divisions.

With categories ranging from elite singles to doubles and veterans, the event delivered intense competition and served as a key selection ground for Zimbabwe’s national team ahead of the All Africa Games in Uganda this November.

Gwidzima, ranked 169th in the world, displayed grit and precision as he edged out Muhwati in a dramatic final that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

For Mubure, her win reinforced her dominance in the women’s game, while Natasha Gwidzima’s run to the final reflected the growing strength of Zimbabwe’s junior ranks.

Beyond the elite categories, the Doubles Section also delivered excitement, with Muti and Malvin emerging as champions thanks to a strong combination of teamwork and aggressive play.

Speaking after the tournament, organiser Nishyto Munyoro praised the standard of play and the spirit of competition shown throughout the weekend.

“The Zimbabwe Nationals 2025 has been one of the most competitive and exciting editions we’ve seen. The level of talent—especially from our juniors—is clear to see.

"We’re proud of everyone who participated and look forward to supporting our national team at the All Africa Games. A huge thank you to all players, sponsors, supporters, and the Highlands Squash Club for making this a success,” he said.
