The Zimbabwe Music Rights Association has extended financial support to Sungura icon Nicholas Zakaria, popularly known as “Madzibaba,” by providing a one-off incapacitation allowance to assist with his medical expenses.

Zakaria, who has been battling health complications that have affected his ability to perform and earn a living, received the assistance following a recent visit by ZIMURA officials. The veteran musician has been a member of the association since 1990.

“The Zimbabwe Music Rights Association has provided a much-needed incapacitation allowance to renowned Sungura musician Nicholas Zakaria, affectionately known as 'Madzibaba',” ZIMURA said in a statement.

The incapacitation allowance is part of ZIMURA’s welfare support system for members who are unable to create or perform music due to illness or other valid reasons. Once assessed and approved, qualifying members receive US$500 or the equivalent in local currency.

“This payment aims to assist with his medical bills as he faces health challenges that have prevented him from performing and supporting his family,” the association noted.

ZIMURA emphasized that the initiative reflects its broader commitment to member welfare, going beyond copyright protection to include personal well-being.

The association offers a range of benefits to its members, including gratuities for long-serving elderly members, funeral assistance, legal advice, recommendation letters, copyright education, and free digital music distribution services.

“ZIMURA continues to stand by its members throughout their careers, honoring their contributions and ensuring they receive the support they deserve,” the association stated.
